Cactus like bright indirect sunlight, a south facing window will do this plant good. Too much direct sun will cause the plant to turn yellow in colour. Allow your soil to dry out between watering over watering can cause the cactus to turn soft and brown. Cactus like to be root bound so you will not need to re-pot often about every two to three years. Ensure to only go up a pot size at a time and the pot has drainage holes.
